Book a table at the better restaurants in Cannes

With nearly 800 food outlets in Cannes, there’s a wide choice. But, if we’re talking serious establishments, it’s more like 50. And if you’re looking, I’m afraid that from personal knowledge, Trip Advisor is not a good place to start.

So, in the first place, turn to the professional restaurant guides.

What are the best guides to restaurants in Cannes and Provence?

First of all, I’d recommend Gault Millau 2020, which covers a good cross section of the better restaurants in Cannes and surrounding areas. The French themselves swear by Gault Millau incidentally.
I’d also look at the Michelin Guide 2020. The 2020 guide recommends 11 restaurants in Cannes, down from 15 in 2019, and down from over 20 in 2018! Most of those dropped have hardly changed in our view. As you may have read in the press, the Michelin Red Guide has been courting controversy anyway, reducing star-ratings from long-established restaurants. I don’t see much logic behind the Cannes reduction, but it may be to do with an overall revamp of the Michelin policy. They have been accused of being a bit too traditional and not encouraging newcomers and/or, new approaches. The days of white-gloved waiters and an insistence on jacket and tie have gone!
